Creative web drivers often require the drivers from the CD to be installed first. Try installing the Creative drivers from your install CD, then installing the web drivers over those.

If your card is detected by the device manager, then right click on it in device manager, and go to 'update driver.' Point this to the creative driver file you downloaded, or i should say to the place where the creative driver .exe unpacks its files. Usually c:windows/temp or something like that.

Creative cards can be a pain.....sometimes the strangest things will work, like a different pci slot or something.

I have another creative sb live in my main rig that won't work unless i use older drivers. After the initial installation, windows would find the correct drivers and automatically install them, and after a required reboot, my sb live would work.

Well I got greedy and wanted to have updated drivers, so i download the driver package from creative, and after I installed the driver update my sound would cease working. Then i would go into device manager and have to 'rollback' the driver to the previous version (the one that windows finds automatically) in order to get any sound.

This could also have to do with my BA7500 speakers that are very finicky and not the sound card, but you could give it a try.....

Anyway, that why they are called 'creative,' because you have to be creative to install 'em! You might also want to consider the fact that it was given away because it is defective.........

Exactly what happened to me. (several times... )

I would resist the tempation for months, then succumb and try the latest Creative drivers. It would then take me a half-hour and about four reboots to get my rear channels back.

Now I am very careful to avoid them.

Ridiculous, isn't it................to have every possible driver except the stupid creative sb one updated. It irks me to no end............i lose sleep over it. :grumble:

Leave it to creative to release a newer driver that is worse than the one it replaced...............

There is quite a comprehensive collection of Creative drivers in the downloads section. If you have a scavenge around in there for a full driver pack of some sort and then manually install the drivers as ryko instructed. That should get you up and running.

    Cheers
