I like my 9600XT, but then I am not a heavy gamer.
If you want to spend the money on a 9800pro/XT go for it. You don't hear people complaining about them.

thats wierd d00d! your post should be first! lol

anywho 200 europe dollars huh? ummm id say a fx5900 se by eVGA i had the card when i upgraded from my 9600xt it truly was a great card. I hated to see it go but the deal i got on this 5950 was unreal so alas i sold it. People hate Nvidia but that is by far the best midranged card out there and its 180 USD

My friend has the 9800 pro 128mb We have identical pcs cept the vid card I smoked him in 3dmark with that 5900se

Europe dollars!? :shakehead  What the hell have you been smoking??

It's known in this country as POUNDS. We remember your currency, you could try remembering ours. :aol:

Anyway... £200 get's you plenty of muscle for your money. That built by ATI 9800pro you linked to is fine. That guys got a hell of alot of feedback and is a good seller. Used to sell a lot of 9700pro's.

If you don't want to get it off Ebay..

Komplett have the same price on the same card (but made by Powercolor)... and it beats the naff nVidia dog suggested by the gnome. I've benched them both side by side, so have alot of sites.. the nVidia card doesn't stand a chance UNLESS It's a 5950 nV card (which conveniently Mr G. Wizzard has).

that looks like a good deal.... will that card be able to ply games like far cry etc decently? I also want something that will work into the future aswell half life 2... doom 3 etc etc.. thanks

I just got a 9800pro/128 and it really is a geniunely fast card. I can't speak for its performance on games that aren't out yet, but it SHOULD be able to play HL2/D3 at a decent pace.

Your post got bumped to second because of weird server hardware clock issues. We're working on it.

My 9600AIW is handling Far Cry quite well on an identical system to yours. All the other goodies are fun too. Solid price for less than $200. That's American Gnome!!! Great card.

Thats not damn bad price at all mate :)

If you don't need the games and fancy box, why the hell not??

AFAIK .. the "Lite Version" is just an OEM card without the usual box of bits to tempt you into spending more money than you need to ;)

(says he with the ASUS 9800xt mega pack ;D)

That has to be a major mis-price for a 128mb card. Hell.. I paid _less_ than that for my 256 9800xt!

Id buy if it did have a Rolex though... :nudge:

You might want to wait a few weeks. With the NV40 and R420 introductions the 9800 Pro/XT will be dropping in price. Especially with the GF 6800 Non Ultra coming in at $299 US
  • edited April 2004
I think I might just sell my car and buy a GeForce 6800 8x when they come out...not.
I wish I could afford one though, it looks like nVidia might have finally got the formula right...just in time to beat HL2 by...what, another 6 mo.s or so?

My 9800 pro 256 is owning Far Cry at 1280x1024. Awesome card :thumbup
  • edited April 2004
Far Cry plays nicely at 1024x768 4xAA on my 5900U, no slowdowns or glitches at all although I'm running mine mildly overclocked (530core 980mem) so my results may be atypical.
I'm not ruling out ATI Thrax, I'm just saying that the new GeForce should live up to the promise of what the FX line claimed...even if the R4XX is 5% faster than the NV4X (or for all that matters 5% slower) both will be dynamite cards compared to what was available just a few months back.
Both lines should be pretty nice if the preview of the NV40 is any indicator, you know they are going to be in the same ballpark at least.

is there likely to be much of a price drop when the new card come out? I can't find a UK release date for either nvidia cards or ATI, i don't want ot be waiting until mid may before i buy the same card for £10 cheaper if you know what i mean...
