Good news for me and of course the team

Well i haven't won a fortune. I have not even updated my current rig. So what have or will i do. Ok here goes. I've started a course or whatever that will be about trying to get jobs and stuff. What you need to know if your looking for jobs.

Most of this week has been spent listening on endless lectures but today we actually got to write an job application which is whar we're supposed to do. It hit me that this school that we're in has several computer rooms and we usually spend some time in one of them. :) I think that the computers are P2:s :halfcog:, it wasn't clear but i do know that they run windows 2000, and boot with speeds that makes my rig seem fast.

Nevertheless i couldn't stop thinking about the potential for a certain project that these rigs could undertake. :D I don't know who's responsible for the computers and therefor have no plans on contacting that person i still started installing fah on them.

While writing the application i also searched these forums for a post by csimon about how to set up fah on many computers. After spending some time trying to get the stupid script to work i instead found a guide linked to in the same thread (Good news for the team or something like that) about installing fah as a service.

I unsipped the files to a directory on a disc, downloaded a fah4console to the same place, created a shortcut for service.exe in that folder as well as one to start. services.msc. The shortcuts was placed in the main directory along with the job application that i wrote while doing all this. Talk about multitasking.

All i have to do is insert the disc, start service.exe, fill in you know what :rarr: and start the service itself.

So far it has been done on 2 computers and none in the room is on very much but that wont matter. :fold: I'll try to install it on the teachers computer tomorrow. :rarr:

Let's hope that my stunt wont get noticed to soon but right now i know a few that will go :bawling: while i go :fold: and  So this is great news for a certain swede :sweflag: and of course the team.

BTW the rigs i've looked at have vnc installed so they are remotly monitored but hopefully not to closely. To see if this would work i first ran the graphical client. It worked but i have removed it now to stealph what i do.

Officially, we can't condone illegally installing FAH on unauthorized computers. I don't know about Sweden, but it actually is against the law to do that here without permission from the owner or responsible party.

I'd really encourage you to do the right thing and talk to someone in charge, explain the benefits, point them to the site, and see if you can get them folding legitimately.

I also suggest asking before installing. Who knows, maybe they will have a place in their heard and give you permission to do this on all the computers. Cant hurt to ask.

I will "third" that idea. One of the worst things you can do is antagonize or aggravate folks trying to help you get work. if they do not like folding this will accomplish that, unfortunately, and if it is a government agency-- well, in the US this could be handled as a hacking attempt to divert computer resources. Locally, this is immediate grounds for explulsion from a school where this is done.

Ok then i'll try to find the techie. Didn't think it would be that serious but i realize now that it would. Then again if i did i would not have to do much if anything except i wont get the credit for it. :( Oh well. So what should i say, which site should i point to. The everything thread would be good because i learned more from it then from stanfords site.

Hopefully i'll be able to get to the rigs today and remove fah. Let's hope that whoever responsible for those computer actually knows some about them so i don't have to spend hours convincing them that it wont hurt performance which it wont.

I found a document called foldingfaq on stanfords site theat i printed but i'll have a look at yours too. For it to work though i would have to translate it to swedish.

I removed fah as well as winrar so now the systems are cleaned. I haven't had a chance to talk to the techies but heard stories that their quite paranoid when it comes to installing new stuff so i must have something concrete to tell them.

The worst part is that i don't think i can talk them into using my name so even if it all works out i still wont get a bosted performance. Oh well it least the team will benefit.
