Wierd Lockups...

But every often my DESKTOP locks up on me... the taskbar and everything, but the programs I have up are fine, like Mozilla right now I can click around and type in just fine... but I will try to switch between windows and/or press the "Show Desktop" icon in my Quicklaunch bar, and it won't do anything, not even the rollover effect.
I haven't had this problem for too long to playw ith it, but it was happening before the last time I reformatted too, so a reformat probably won't fix it. I pressed the Windows Button on my keyboard and it managed to open the Start Menu, and unfreeze everything, but that could have been a fluke cause it will unlockup on it's own it seems. Nothing is running in the background that shouldn't but I am going to run through all my services and shut off everything I don't need cuase I just reformatted and haven't gotten to it yet.
Any ideas? TIA.
