Official SM LAN Games Thread

Ok guys, here is the official SM LAN Gaming thread. We'll do what we did last time and take suggestions but here are the current ideas. Rules for the games are LEGAL copies. We want to determine this so we have a main server running something at all times. Other people can feel free to play something else, but the most popular of these will be in rotation on the LAN server.

UT2k4- Obvious choice. We will probably base all Tourneys off of this because it A) Should be the most popular and B) Will be easiest to set tourneys up for. Just about everyone will probably be playing this, so I suggest everyone have a copy of this. Also, we'll try and keep any tourney we do short and sweet, not some long drawn out affair so as to minimize downtime for some players.

From here we have-
BF 1942/BFV
Warcraft/Starcraft/C&C Generals/Homeworld/CIVIII/RoN (something in that realm)
Halo PC
Pandora Tomorrow MP
CS/DoD/HL etc
Combat Flight Sim of some type (Suggestions!!!)

Throw out the suggestions attendees, and if you aren't an attendee, sign on up and we'll see you there!!

I'd really really like to play some Civilization III, or X-Wing Alliance. Actually, any combat flight sim would be great. Any takers?

How about C&C Generals Zero Hour for the RTS category(?)

//edit: and I'll throw in a vote for Halo PC.

I'd go for some CivIII or even some Alpha-Centauri...

I volunteer to be thoroughly trounced in Rise of Nations...

    And Ya, Halo PC... Dawg...

Erm... I mean... I don't say things like like that...

I'm up for some SMAC as well; but I don't have the Civ3 Multiplayer expansion, so that's a big no-go for me.

We will try to have a SM server running on the network that will be running the official games. Of course people are welcome to play other things, but the server will hold the official games. UT2K4 will be on it, but what is the situation with the RTSs. Does anyone know about Dedicated servers for C&C or Starcraft?

I don't know if you can set up a dedicated server for Starcraft. I think you'd either have to just start up a LAN game off of someones computer or go through battle.net. I'm not sure about it though since I'm not a big Starcraft person.

I'm all for UT2K4, BF1942, and Halo on the dedicated server at some point. Those should prove to be some fun ones to frag on. I'm also up for some Warcraft III and Homeworld though I suck royally at both. No Counterstrike for me though. I don't wanna touch that game with a 10' pole.

Sounds good to me, I will have to go buy Halo though.

As far as BF1942 goes, are we going to be playing any mods for it or just straight BF?

In the initial game thread, on the attendees forum, there were quite a few people who wanted to have some Desert Combat games. I'd say that it is a good possibility we'll play it at one time or another.

Enemy Territory would probably be fun over Lan. Lag ruins it over internet play. And its free.

I plan on getting Halo still - I went out and bought BF:V two nights ago. I think with UT2k4, Halo, and BF:1942 and BF:V, I should be covered.

Oh God, serious? We need legal copies? That leaves me screwed... all I know is HL2 :(

Well, like we said last year - the server will be running all legit, legal, fully patched copies. It's not our problem if your warez cracked copy doesn't work on the server.

Ah, I s'pose. I wonder if most of them will even work... How big is the game list? Is it pretty much everything in this thread, so far?

I imagine that based on the estimated time period of the LAN, it will be UT2k4, HL2MP, some RTS stuff, Pariah, and hopefully Halo2 for PC will be out by then.

I'm putting in a vote for Rome Total War or at least Medieval Total War. Anyone else play Total War?

I also have a bunch of the standard RTS games (CC, Warcraft III, Starcraft) plus Halo. I'll probably split my time between RTS and FPS games.

Anyone else use a Microsoft Sidewinder Strategic Commander? I'm old so it's too late for me to rewire my brain for WASD :)

I'm fairly good against the computer..... unless I choose the stupid auto battle function. Then my forces get wiped out... grrrrrr.

Rome Total War is a good one for me.
