I'm a big fan of Cyberlink PowerDVD.

I use Nero for the Burning.

I use ATi's DVD player for decoding.

For backing up DVDs (only those that it is legal to do so): DVD Shrink is my new fav.

//EDIT: Not sure if this is an Emergency...

    DVD Shrink for extracting.

    Nero V6.0 for burning.

    Pinnacle Studio 8 for capturing.

Nero V6.0 Video Express for burning captured files.

Fairly easy learning curve on all.

    DVD Shrink for DVD9>DVD5
    DVD Decrypter for DVD5>DVD5
Burn with Nero or DVD Decrypter
    Watch with PowerDVD

TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 . Its not free but there is a 30 day trial. If your resourceful enough you can get lots of use out of it.

Yea that combination is what I use to convert divx and downloaded pr0n to dvd. Works perfect.

However some people may not like the limited capabilities of the menu creation system in tmpenc dvd author.

I think Pinacle makes a product with a lot more menu functionality. I dunno the name of it tho.

DVD Shrink: I use V2.3 all the time, unless I have to put two DVD's onto one, in which case I use V3.1. Both work well.
