AMD Athlon XP Thorton 2200 and ECS K7VTA3
I bought this combo at fry's last week. I bought a huge 3200+ copper bottom cooler master heat sink and artic silver 5 thermal compound. I also bought 2x256mb ddr 2700 ram. I have a craptacular video card which I will be replacing sometime after the nvidia geforce 6 comes out (the prices will drop). The only overclock I've done so far was on the mobo. I just changed the jumpers to run at 166 instead of 133, which makes it run as a 2800+. I have the cpu running at 2.2ghz at only 40*C. I know I can get more out of this Thorton, but I can't raise the voltage and fsb in the bois. I was wondering if there was a way of doing this. Maybe a program like 8rdavcore that works for this motherboard. And any other recomendations. I also know that you can unlock the bridges on the cpu to get the extra L2 cache, but I'm a noob and I know I will f--k things up.

If its a recent Thorton core cpu then I think you will find that it will be locked on both cache & multiplier. I believe it says on another thread here that they were locked after week 40 but I'm not sure if that refers to both multiplier & cache or just the multiplier. Somebody else will probably confirm that though

Jim is correct as I haven't seen any pre-locked Thortons from Fry's in very long time and the last 2 which were Brown week 26 Thortons were locked. What you have now is what I recentlu built for my wife and it seems to run fairly decent. Is that 40C Idle or full load? If it is idle you most likely don't want to push it much farther.

Thanks for the replies guys. Well...I haven't seen the core heat up at all, even when running "cpu burn in wizard" from SiSoftware. I think the Artic Silver 5 and the Heatsink are doing a really good job at keeping it cool. Now, about the locking. I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with the ECS (Phoenix AwardBIOS) bois compared to the nforce in other boards. But I don't get the menu where you can increase the voltage and fsb options. Well, I do, but it just displays the information, not giving me the option to change it. I was just wondering if there was a program like the 8rdavcore (which is compatible abit nf7, asus a7n8x,msi kt7n2, etc.) for my ecs mobo. I noticed that mtgoat had a post around december talking about his xp 2000+ and ecs motherboard. Since you are familiar with my bios, you know the only option for overclocking is going to Frequency/Voltage Control menu and uping the CPU Clock. But if you go into the Advanced Chipset Features> DRAM Clock/Drive Control> The "current fsb frequency" and "current dram frequency" are locked. So... what can I do to up the fsb and up the voltage. Can someone familiar to this motherboard let me know if they found anything. Because I'm a noob for all this stuff. Thanks!
