9800 Pro

edited April 2004 in Hardware
i have a 9800 pro card and everytime i play a game the graphics are really choppy. ive run adaware, spybot, cwsshredder and every other program i could find to see if i had spam or viruses. agp fast write is off in my bios. when i go into smartgart i try to set the agp speed to 8x the computer restarts but when i go back into smartgart its back at zero. i tried using ati tool but to no evail. really confused about this . im using the 4.4 drivers as well. would a total reformat be good?

Did you used to have another video card and then installed the Radeon later? Or was it installed at the same time as the OS?

Definatley get the latest BIOS revision for your board. What is it revision '1.4' now?

I think you need to try going through your 'msconfig' startup list (start - run - msconfig) and make sure only items that are necessary are checked. If it is just one game you're experiencing problems with, then I suggest you also look for an update patch for it. Also, un-install your Catalyst drivers (use the ATI Catalyst Uninstaller, you can get it from the downloads section), then after a restart, re-install them again. See if that helps.

Also, make sure your onboard Realtek audio is disabled and make sure your sound card has the latest drivers for it. Make sure the acoustic edge is also a couple of PCI slots away from the AGP slot on your motherboard, or any other card for that matter if possible.

Try all that, then post back.

    Cheers

If this reply was that you didn't install DX9b prior to the CAT drivers then you should remove the drivers and all components completely then be sure you DO have DX9b installed and re-install the CATs. It states very clearly in ATI's instructions that you must install DX9 first!. You must also have the GART (AGP) drivers installed prior to the ATI drivers. If you have missed something you can
    read it here.

You need to install the latest chipset drivers for your processor. I had the same problem as soon as i upgraded my chipset drivers it worked flawlessly

If you're refering to his GPU drivers then, he has said he is using the latest. The Catalyst 4.4's. If you meant the motherboard chipset drivers though, yes, good advice. Though I can't imagine it will make that much difference seeing as he's using a very new motherboard which should have come with very recent, if not the latest chipset drivers.
