Germany's Infineon Technologies AG (IFX) said Friday it will invest $1 billion in expanding a U.S. computer chip plant and increase its work force as the company adds capacity in a bid to profit from the chip market recovery.
Munich-based Infineon said it would install equipment to manufacture memory chips on larger 300 millimeter wafers at its factory in Richmond, Va., starting early next year. It will increase its work force at the plant to 2,550 from 1,750.
