Computer woes
So I set up my SATA drive. I get the OS and everything the way I want it. The old install is not needed anymore so I reformat it. But like my usual dumbass self I deleted the boot stuff for the new install since it was on C:\ and the SATA install was on another drive. That makes the new install worth crap. So In the meantime I installed a temp version of XP until I could get some time to work on it duing the weekend.
So I use Partition Magic to get the Partition I want to install XP on to C: on the temp install. I reboot to install it back onto the SATA drive and its now partition D: and my temp install is c: somehow in XP setup. It just makes up drive letters for all the partitions. Not one of them is right. So I say **** it and delete the temp install of XP partition to make my Sata C: which it was. Good there. But now for some reason it was saying that XP could not install on that drive. It was not compatible or some other bull****. It would have to install the startup files (the same ones I accidently deleted mind you) on my 80GB WD which I had XP on in the first place. But since I had deleted all the patitions off that, it wouldnt install anyway. So the XP install had to format that whole 80GB (I wanted it one big partition anyway) and then format the SATA partition and then install XP on the SATA and boot files onto D: the PATA WD.
I say screw it and let it do its thing and put it across the 2 drives for some freakin screwy reason. I got everything installed almost back the way I want it this afternoon.
Part of the way thru setting up everything, right after the chipset drivers, I play some music to test the drivers out. I played with the speaker setup and got everything sounding great. I got all the channels working great. Even got it to make a center channel even tho I dont have one. Last time I tried that it was biased towards the left side and now it was centered. I got all the channels pumping out sound and it sounded better than ever. They were all into red and yellow on the nVidia Control Panel
So I finish installing all the other programs (of which ATI drivers other than what came on the CD and I found I can use 1280*1024@160HZ!!! I dont think I could do 1024*768 over 85Hz so thats a bit impovement). I try playing some music again tonight cause I am along in the apartment and I want to crank it up. It sounds SO ****ED UP!! I fdont have any rear speakers and what is coming out sounds like total crap!!!!!!!!!
So that pisses me off if you cant tell already so I uninstall the nvidia drivers which screws up the video drivers for some reason. It reboots and its at 640*480 and I I have to move the display properties so I can press ok because its too freakin huge for my 17" monitor. I reinstall the nvidia drivers and reboot. The video drivers work normal now. Now that I think about it I prolly only had like 2k or something and caused all that crapiness.
Still the sound sucks ass and I want it back. I used to have the best sound combo in the apartment with the 560s/Soundstorm compared to the 680s/Live! and 540s/Live! and now the sound blows. I can could go higher on the volume compared to the 680s and had better quality because of the Soundstorm. I was just better than the 540s all around. Now they both sound better. Take a look at how the Control Panel looks now with rear channels gone. Attachment below
So I try to do a repair install but once again in XP setup and drive letter for the current and good install somehow manages to change and become drive D: and the drive with the boot crap on it is C: Then I have a thought of unplugging the WD drive and so it doesnt have a choice at install, but then I think some more and realize that it wont even see an XP installation without the WD plugged so I am ****ed either way. Repair is NOT an option so I either have to fix the sound stuff somehow in XP or redo the whole damn thing over again, which I of course dont feel like doing.
I think I am done ranting now.
