yep, i've put out several threads on heatsinks...but it's such an important part lol. so is there a noticeable difference between the slk-800, slk-900, slk-947 and slk-948? the sp-94 is just priced ridiculously high. which fan should i stick on any of these? i assume a 92mm, but which ?

    The SP-94 is only $44.99. ( http://heatsinkfactory.com/cgi-bin/HFAstore.pl?user_action=detail&catalogno=HS-026 )

You think thats too much for the best all-copper Heatpipe Heat sink on the market? The 94 ranks No. 1 on Overclockers.com's P4 heatsink review. That's just one of many A+ reviews I read before I bought it.

I use the SP-94 with a 92mm Panaflo High Performance (2850 RPM - 56.8 CFM @ 35 dB) on my P4 3.0 / 800 FSB, which is overclocked to 3.2. At idle I'm at 98-101 F, under full load my CPU runs at 111-116 F, depending on the ambient temp in the house.

All I can say is you get what you pay for.

I use an slk 947u with an 80mm fan ...so I could probably do just as well with an slk-800. Thing is ...my heatsink cools better with the 80mm SFII than with the 92mm tornado. Go figure!

hm, well i guess i'll have to scratch this whole idea anyhow :banghead: guess my mobo isn't on the supported mobos list on thermalright's site, and now that i took a good look at it, there'd be no room for it to hang over the edge :shakehead

Yeah, but if you look even closer, they they say they haven't yet found a mobo that's not compatible/supported.

interesting...well i looked at their tuts (this will definitely be a project lol) and the boards were similar...so i'm posting 2 pics i took of my cpu. not sure if it'll help but it may help someone get an idea.

thermalrights are designed like \_/, so they miss the capaciters on most mobos

ok. well i just went digging around on their site, which i must say is inconsistant. i found that the gigabyte ga 8ipe1000pro has OK for the SLK-947U and the SLK-800U. so would the 948 be almost the same as the 47? i don't really understand any difference, and they're the same price where i'd be getting them: http://www.bestbyte.net/Category.cfm?CategoryID=6&Keyword=#140

ok, so...after that, what fan should i get? or should i find a retail one and just use that? once again, feel free to smack the n00b for all his questions :sawed:

slk-947u is for the athlon xp ...slk-948 is for the athlon64.

so i guess that means they're different shaped then, and i prolly couldn't use a 948. sf2's are relatively cheap, which is good also. final question: how should i mount it? using the backplate or just the clip in way? remember i'll prolly be hauling this to people's houses every few months and would like my mobo in one piece
