Laser printing! Wallaloo!

At the cable station, we sometimes put our more popular shows on DVD and sell them, but we are using DVDr, so if the program runs over an hour we end up having to span it across iltiple disk, or we'll compromise the quality.

So:

The big boss comes up to me yesterday and says, "You're the computer geek, right"

"Yea", I say.

So he continues, "I want to be able to make proffesional DVDs, like the ones movies come on."

"That's awesome," I said, "It would be great if we could do that!"

"I'm glad you agree," he said, "I'd like a feasability study on my desk by Friday."

So:

I need to know some stuff.

We're on a tight budget, so how cheaply can we get a real DVD stamper? is it even realistic at all?

How much do the blank DVDs run?

How much work is it to run one of these machines?

How much training would it take to learn to run it?

Is there a good resource for this info?

The instant I saw "Wallaloo!" in the title I knew this was your post.

When you say 'tight budget' exactly what do you mean?

    Are you looking for these:

    or these:

Just remember you can't do dual layer burning (which will be released later, with 2 diff stds) and may need to compress your video to fit on one disc.

He said that he wants to make DVDs that are as good quality, and can hold as much as a commercial DVD that he buys in the store... He was innitialy confused as to why He could buy a DVD with 2.5 hours of DVD quality video, but we can only make DVDs that hold an hour of that quality.

By 'tight budget', I mean that I have no idea what out budget is, except that I hear constant complaints about the tight budget.

And that Mike told me to look into doing this cheaply.

CBDroege, you may want to give an expert a call. I have a client who is in the DVD replication business. I'll PM you the phone number, I'm sure they would be happy to talk to you about your needs.
