VIA KT880 Chipset Review

edited April 2004 in Science & Tech
The Tech Report has pitted the nForce2 chipset against Via's KT880 and has declared that Socket A isn't dead yet.
It took a while for VIA to bring a dual-channel memory controller to its Socket A chipset family, but the KT880 finally makes it happen. The results are impressive, too. The KT880 was slightly faster than the nForce2 Ultra 400 in almost all of our application benchmarks, making it easy to recommend the chipset to enthusiasts looking to wring as much performance as possible from the Socket A platform.
Looks like VIA has stolen the crown in the Socket A arena for the time being. -KingFish

I read the review and the dummies never tried overclocking it or even stating whether the newest POS Via chipset has a working AGP/PCI lock on it. :eek2: I wouldn't even consider it unless it has a working lock on the AGP and PCI busses.

VIA is the leader in the Opteron chipset range also. The new NF3-250 only equals the old K8T800 chipset.

    the K8T800 Pro (A64), PT880 (P4), & the KT880 (AXP) all have PCI/AGP lock

The KT600 can already do 220+mhz, and the PT880 can do 250mhz so the KT880 should be in that range. Also bear in mind most NF2 mobos (Abit included) top out between 220-230mhz and many cant even do that, Judging from "Help" posts and "For Sale" posts
