Looks like the only difference between the two is that the ZR-90 is smaller a little bit. The major problem I have with Canon's are the light and noise issues they have, if you tape a party or something, you better bring some good lighting, cuase you will get a noisy picture.
Here is what I bought, the Sony DCR HC30, I can say the night shots are very nice, and I could even provide you a sample file to show how clear my picture was while doing a documentary. The audio isn't very clean as I need a new external MIC.

It's about 15MB, I don't have time to make it smaller, but it shows off teh Camera I have at night while I was driving home one night, but I didn't have anything to keep it in place while driving so it's a bit bumpy, and the Windshield on my truck isn't the cleanest with all the pollen down here in Florida when I shot it.
I'll see if I can show off how clean this baby can get in both night shots and day shots, and then with studio lighting. Something is screwy with my system, so I couldn't edit it very well :P Anyways, hope it helps.
Thanks RWB, that was pretty cool. The video I have taken with Canon and Sony's seem pretty good for my purpose. I think I am still leaning towards the Canon...but I know that when changing the tape that mechanism is pretty noisy.
I heard the ZR-90 was supposed have gotten a quieter motor.
Maybe some other people will reply to this.
And yes, please take and post more video clips! THX.
What is the "analog format" that I see on the specs for the Sony DCR-HC30 that you have? I notice that the Canon ZR-70mc doesn't have that.
The Sony DCR-HC30 lists: Analog video format - NTSC.
The Canon ZR-70MC lists: Digital video format - MJPEG.
Also, am I able to do something with videotapes and get them onto digital video? Might I do that, say, if I have family gatherings that are on old VHS videotapes?
Yeah, I have been using my DV Cam to record several things... as long as it isn't copyrighted, you can copy it. And from what I have taken so far I would say it looses at most 5% of the quality. I've recorded TV Shows, Home Movies from parties and all that. Works like a charm for turning non DV to DV.
NTSC is the format used here in America and most civilized countries :P for TV and stuff. It is still digital though. Couldn't tell ya much more then that right now, busy in Lab, but with random free bits of time :P
