Anyone playing this? Me and a few friends are getting into it, I'll be buying it Wednesday or Tuesday, but they are already playing it and loving it. Though they were in the beta as well.

So anyone else?

I was in the first group of beta guys so I've been tinkering with it a long time. I don't play it as many hours non stop as I did at first, but I still play it every day for a couple of hours. It's just plain fun being a super hero.

I play a Female Dark Defender on the Freedom server called Dark Isis.

Give a holler when you get in.

Wish I could say I was here for college but since I graduated in 1974 from the Univ of Maryland I'm a bit old for that. :)

I came over from Icrontic a few months back. I was a member over there for years.

I use the monker Missileman because I was a System/Integration/Test Engineer for Lockheed Martin. I did launch a LOT of missiles and rockets and I was a Rocket Scientist.

I'm down in south Orlando, Hunter's Creek - Williamsburg area.

Missleman hmmm a rocket scientist eh Iā€™m mean its not a brain surgeon... just kidding incredible kudos to you I could never do it, I lack the brain power

But I was checking out this game and looks cool, however I lack the funds to pay the monthly fee so it will be a while before I get in on the game

This game is so much fun! Just started last night, I have a level 6 Natural Scrapper going with poisonous spikes protruding from my body in battle, it's great! A couple Screenies....

its like an action mmorpg with some very well scripted quests, etc. you play it like you're a super hero. very cool

You may do many things; the short end of it all is that you fight villians. Like many MMORPG's you choose what kind of person you wish to be; and this is the great part of this game too, there are no 2 alike super heros in this game. Customizability is superb, the only way to make it better wold be to have characters that are not humaniod, but if it is a humaniod, you can design it. Although the amount of facial textures are lacking IMHO. Of course you also must decide what kind of character you want to be; close range, short range. To tank, or not to tank; this is the question. Amoung this is the "METHOD" I would call it of being what you are.

For instance a Natural Blaster and a Technological Blaster are pretty much the same exact thing, just a ifferent name. But the way you "blast" is different, so it gives it a different "effect". Be it a ray shooting from your hands, or bullets from a gun. You see?

Same goes for everyone, there are Blasters, Controllers, Scrappers, Tankers, and some others I am forgetting off hand. I play a Natural Scrapper whose main ability are the poisonous spines from hell! Scrappers are like tankers, in that they fight up front. The difference is that I can deal more damage than a tanker, but I also receive more. The tanker can take more damage but deals less than me. Them damned Blasters stea my kills and even blasters who are lower than me in level sometimes are able to deal more damage, and when you have 1 scrapper, but 3 blasters, the blaster do most the work it seems while I am just a decoy to keep them from getting hurt. But it's all still very fun.

Flying actually is a skill you CAN learn if you want too, you decide if it is best for ya. I got it becuase IT'S FLYING! I also can deal damage now without getting in the middle of a fight, kinda like a blaster. I fly up in the air, and toss some spines down upon my enemies! Poison is great cuase it deas damage over time on top of damage from getting pierced. I need a video of how it works, it is pretty cool.

There is only one city, but it s about the size of a real city as well. It is broken up into many smaller parts, each of which still are pretty large.

Villians are everywhere, you can save a woman from a purse napper, or some guy in a back alley from getting mugged. Or you can do a mission which usually send you out into a building somewhere, and you clean it out of bad guys plotting out something.

I would say it gets a tad repetitive though, mostly on missions. I honestly haven't played in at least a week, but mostly becuase some older games have cuaght my eye once again. Like Alpha Centauri, and Dungeon Siege.

But I am keeping my subscription becuase it is still a fun game to just play everynow and then. I need to level some more so I can go into some better areas to fight, new areas that arn't so repetitive. It was fun when I last played and we were taking out an island filled with TREES and... smaller TREES.

Tempting, but I never have time for games like that. I can never level up like I want to, although, the last one I played was the Galaxies beta, and that was disapointing.

This game is a blast Ive been playing since Beta, me and the Miss's play together its a lot of fun and my friends and I have descovered that this is one of the few games that we can get our wives intrested in. Isnt that odd? anyway I play on Pinnicale. anyone else on that server?

    Side note-
To the nay-sayer that complained about paying to play. Think about it. You pay $15 a month to play this game, you play lets say at an extream low of 2 hours a day 30 days a month that is literly $0.25 an hour. and thats at only 2! hours a day. on the other had you and your wife/girl friend like to go to a move once a month well 7.50 a ticket, 2 tickets thats $15 right there, now add the popcorn and the soda. your way over your budget, a lonely guy? well you go to 2 movies a month and thats still the same. so my point is yes. it does cost to play. but do the math the ammount it cost vs. the amout of game play / enjoyment. its really VERY cheap entertainment.

BTW this game takes almost no time to play ie. if you have 30 minuets to play you can still play and do a missiona nd feel like you have done something worth while. yet it is so simple to play that it is addictive. they have doen a wonderful job with it, I give it a 10/10 and ive played 90% of all MMORPGs.

you have 2 hours a day to spare? cause I work 40 hours a week and take one college class and i barely see my wife.
  • edited May 2004
yeah I do, I also do college 18 credits a semester, including summer. it helps that my wife loves to play CoH :)

17 hours of college credit + 25 hours of work = zero free time. but at the moment im just doing the 40 hours thing, so i have SOME free time. and theres always weekends ;D

I have played CoH for a little and i like it. I am not willing to pay 15$ though. If u would like, i could help u in the game. Let me make a character on your account, and in return i will give u items, money, and anything else u want to help u along in the game. You can email me a jmk2cool@aol.com if you are interested.

Im sorry but that has to be the dumbest thing ive ever heard, and there is no money or items in the game at all, I though you had played CoH before?

Influence is sort of like money.

Enhancements and inspirations are dropped or bought.

Having said that, I agree - that really has to be one of the most stupid things I've ever heard.

Hell, want my credit card numbers and keys to my cars too?

CoH is a fun game. The nice thing is you don't have that 'need to level to enjoy' curve that plagues so many of this type.

I played Ultima on Great Lakes for 4 years and DAoC for a couple and I can honestly say this is the easiest game to get up and running quickly. It scales nicely and soloing can be just as rewarding as grouping.

PvP will eventually be added when the City of Villians expansion hits and that'll add a whole new aspect.

    Fold on.
