CPU / memory problem

so I had:
P4 1.5ghz
512 Rambus 800
ABIT TH7II motherboard
in settings it said 1500(100) for processor setting

I upgraded to a P4 2.4ghz.
unfortunately the 2.4 only works in my motherboard if its
2400(133)

now my memory doesnt say 400/100 when i boot, it says 168/42.

Whats the best way to correct this? new motherboard and ram that fits the processor? i know i should move away from rambus anyway....

I think you purchased a 533fsb p4 2.4ghz.....your board only supports 400fsb cpus....

well.....how long ago did you buy the cpu? can you still return it? I would really suggest getting a "C" version of the p4 with 800fsb.

I like abit's mobos though. The IS7 is a great board, and so is the AI7, but it is a little more expensive.

Get some good dual channel pc3200 or greater (2 matched sticks) from a reputable source like corsair or kingston. Geil is pretty good too. It's cheaper than those two, but just as good IMO.

I personally have a p4 2.8c, abit AI7, 1gb geil golden dragon pc3500, and i couldn't be happier.

Yes it looks like you got a P4 that uses the 133 FSB and your motherboard only supports 100 MHz.

The Abits seem to be among the favorites. That or Asus.
Two matched sticks of at least PC3200 will be good for you.
