On May 3rd, the Mozilla Project released Thunderbird 0.6. New features include a windows installer, a new theme for Mac OS, and an improved junkmail filter.

I use .5 at home for my personal email client, and I use Outlook 2003 at work. I must say that Outlook 2003's junkmail filter is WAY better than Thunderbird .5. Hopefully the .6 version has a better filter.

With that said, Thunderbird .5 is a much better email client than Outlook Express. Comparing a free email client to a paid version isn't that fair, I guess.

More info can be found at the Thunderbird homepage.
