edited May 2004 in Hardware
Ok heres how it goes. Everytime my friend trys to check his hotmail it boots him off the computer:confused: i wrote about this not to long ago. i worked on it yesterday and installed avast, spybot and adaware. ran all three. avast came up with a virus and spybot as well as adaware got stuff and removed it. now everything said and done it still wont work.

then he went on his parents computer to check his mail and now his dads computer is doing it. i installed the same stuff and it came up with a virus that it couldnt delete. came up as "c:\windows\system32\lsass.exe".
error code"1073741819". one of the things i dont understand is that when i installed the stuff of his dads computer it fixed it so that he could check his mail. now hes not using hotmail hes using another company. at first it would do that same thing it would but him off. need some help.

lsass.exe is not a virus ... http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/processlibrary/lsass/ apparently, " It verifies the validity of user logons to your computer or server." so something is either causes that to have a heart attack or your os is corrupt, but i'd be willing to bet option #1

Check for the sasser worm.. Go to symantec.com and download the sasser worm removal tool. See if you are infected with that.

It is surely sasser worm, I agree with primesuspect.

""Note: The execution of the worm causes LSASS.EXE to crash on some systems. The result of this is that the system may undergo a reboot. The fixtool can be successfully run only after the system has completed the reboot.""

This is on symantec website. The removal tool is here.

    http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxSasser.exe

and the security update for windows is here.

    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-011.mspx

Just in case you are bored figuring out from symantec website..

Of course... PATCH the system with the latest Microsoft Critical Updates. Won't do you any good to have the virus removed only to have it get infected again.

You don't need to kneel... I prefer a nice bow at the waist with the right arm outstretched, palm up of course.
