NT 4 Logon Screen Never Appears

edited May 2004 in Hardware
We have a Dell Dimension 4100 Computer that acts as a scanner controller. The driivers for the scanner are only supported on NT4 (so we can't upgrade).

All of the sudden, when we boot the computer, the NT spalsh screen appears but the login screen never shows up. I am not sure what event occured before the problem showed up. Unfortunately, we can't simply re-install the NT 4 OS because the scanner manufacturer will not release their software/drivers.

Any suggestions.....

Sean

Are you using TweakUI? It allows you to bypass the login screen.

Also, what happens if you log off using ctrl-alt-del? Does it give you a login screen then?

Haha... I had the same problem with NT on a computer before. I'm pretty sure it was a hardware problem, but I couldnt' troubleshoot it because the people didn't have the money to pay me. Anyway, a workaround was to unplug the system for about 10 minutes once it was shut down. When I plugged it back in and booted it up, it worked fine. It would still have the no login thing every so often, but unplugging it fixed it every time.

Not super helpful, but you might want to try it.

No, we don't have the TweakUI installed (you are required to enter a username/password/Domain) and we never see the login screen from a cold boot (so you can't Ctl-Alt-Del). The computer's boot only goes as far as the NT 4 splash screen.

    Thanks for your response...
