Tejas will be shelved?

Intel plans to announce today that it has shelved its next chips for desktop and server computers, including its fourth-generation Pentium 4 chip, code-named Tejas. A person briefed on the measure said the change stems from Intel's desire to build chips that are powerful without generating excessive amounts of heat..

An Intel representative declined to comment.

The chips to be canceled include Intel's fourth-generation Pentium 4 chip, code-named Tejas, which was to be sold next year. Also, a new Xeon processor for low-end computer servers, code-named Jayhawk and believed to be based on an architecture similar to that of Tejas, is also to be canceled, the person said.

Intel on Friday is expected disclose further details about its intentions for future desktop and server chip development, which may borrow from its line of processors for mobile computers, the person said. Engineers who have worked on the canceled chips will be reassigned.

Intel's Pentium-M mobile processor runs at less than 2GHz but has the performance of a desktop processor running at faster speeds. On Monday, Intel will introduce its next mobile processor, code-named Dothan, which will run at higher speeds.

    I thought everyone (Intel fanboys) was saying that the Tejas wouldn't be using as much power as the present PresHot.
    The Tejas was hyped to be the "real" PresHot.

    Guess Intel messed up, again. :wink:

    EDIT: Tejas did have an interesting socket design though.
    It didn't use pins like ordinary processors.
    Maybe this is the end of the Netburst architecture?
    It isn't that big a loss though, netburst is very inefficient.
