First, download a prgram called LSP Fix. You will need to use it a little later.

Reboot in SAFE MODE. Run HJT. Fix the following:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gilhi.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gilhi.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gilhi.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gilhi.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gilhi.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.emachines.com
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINDOWS\System32\gilhi.dll/sp.html (obfuscated)
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about_:blank
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,Shellnext = http://www.toshiba.com/taisnpd/support/productreg.html
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4C4FDC98-B50B-4E1A-87A6-CCA200A0C8B6} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\gilhi.dll

Next, run LSP Fix to repair your damaged Winsocks.

Then reboot in normal mode, and check things out.

    Let us know what happens.

OK ThePez, I can help you with the msmsgs part for sure; I know exactly what that POS is. :mean: That is the Windows Messenger crap that M$ put on XP that won't uninstall even if you go into add/remove and windows setup and uninstall there.

What I did was to go to add/remove and then uninstalled Windows Messenger on Windows setup, then went into services and disabled Messenger in the services accounts, then went to Program files and deleted the whole Messenger folder. That seemed to knock the bugger out. That damn Windows Messenger will stay down in your systray using resources and you can't turn it off. If you use M$ Messenger for IM, then go d/l the MSN Messenger variety and use it because you can shut it down, unlike the Windows Messenger that comes on XP.

You can also get rid of the following junk:

    C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe
    Windows Messenger crap

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
Real player crap that runs in background and eats resources, not needed

    O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
    Also not needed

    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
For Office, but not needed for proper operation and frees resources
