edited May 2004 in Science & Tech
If i were to reinstall windows XP to my computer, would i lose the programs that are already on it. Meaning i know that windows XP deals with certain programs, i am having problems with OUtlook Express and i think that if i reinstall XP, that it might fix it. Any advice or warnings before i do this?

it depends on how you do the re-install. If you do it from booting off the XP cd and choose the option to install on the partition that already contains xp then windows will detect this. It will then ask if you want to repair this installation (dont confuse this with the option to repair using the recovery console on the previous screen).

If you choose the option to repair the installtion (not the recovery console one) then it will keep all your settings and installed programmes. You will however have to re-install all the windows critical updates.

Hope this helps and isn't to confusing.

SO basically it will be ok to reinstall it, and i won't lose anything, just as long as i don't do anything involving the option of syster restore or console restore?

    hi dawgeh boy :)

you should be able to uninstall outlookexpress on your computer, i think its now a requirement that microsoft allow users to uninstall it.

however its good to do a fresh install once in a while.

    2 ways.

    1) in windows XP, bung in your XP disk, and do an "upgrade" instalation, this will replace all your existing files but keep all your settings and documents...

or 2) Fresh install, this will loose all your files and do a complete fresh install of the OS on your computer :).

    you wanna do opetion (1).
