S-ata mistery

edited May 2004 in Hardware
Hi there,
My system is brand new, all the components are still sleeping in their antistatic bags and I am trying to gather some information about the exactly installation method - how to build a computer, step by step, from the very beginning up to the end. I have the stupid! ambition to make all these pieces work together! It's fun, but quite riscky...
For example, will you be so kind and tell me what am I supposed to do with my Seagate 80G S-ata drive, where to install this component, on s-ata0 or s-ata1? Motherboard - gigabyte GA-8IPE1000 pro2 (rev.2) and the only optical unit - dvd-rw gigabyte (going to be installed on the secondary ide because of the manufacturer will and specs). Am I or am I not supposed to use sil3112 for my only one, non-raid hard drive? MB chipsets - i865pe and ICH5. Intel 2.8C / 2x256 OCZ PC3200 / gigabyte video card
OS to be - Windows XP.
So, some links with hard & software installation for beginners I'll be more than happy to read. Will somebody help?

You can use it like that just fine. The SI 3x12 controllers will run single drives under all of the controllers modes (BASE and RAID) without any trouble. So yeah you can use the SI 3x12 with only one drive.
