Pulling my hair out

edited July 2003 in Hardware
I've been trying to get my system back together but every time I try, I get high CPU temps. (59 was the best of them, 80 was more common)

I'm worried I may have another worn out clip on my hands. Has anyone else had problems with the clips in thermalright HS's wearing out? If it's the clip, this would be the second one I've had wear out this month, both HS's were purchased in the past three months.

Luckily, the guy from thermalright sent me some prototype two piece clip, but I'm worried because it seems even less sturdy than the stock one.

:banghead:

    It was the clip *********.

I installed my old Dr. Thermal TI V77L and immediately (without changing the thermal grease!) got temps around the 40C. I'm considering RMAing my 800 for an 800U (with the 4 holes) so I get away from these damn clips.

I don't know what I'm gonna do with the Thermalright SLK700, I'm not gonna put it in my parents system, that's for sure.

y not put it in there...whats wrong with it??

The SLK-700 was the first one (about a week ago) to have the clip wear out. I just don't have confidence that it won't happen again.

Esp considering that the replacement clips the guy from thermalright sent me have a big disclaimer about not being the preferred method...

it's not the clip - it's the narrow base of those SLK models giving you a hard time ;)

SK7 owns - the SK/SLK black three prong/tab clips are very good - realize how nice the TR guy is being to you!

i don't have that problem either, i have taken out HSF out and put it back on like dozens of times, works like a charm.
