does it mess up a computer if you lay it on its side and run it that way?(No cd drives either) I mean for a long period of time too

No. There was a time when most computers were housed in desktop cases. Which is kinda like having it on it's side really.

its probably better if you have a large heatsink as it won't put strain on the board. You'll probably want a couple of blow holes on the side of your case thouge because the hot air is gonna get trapped in a lot of places.

    And...

Sorry if this is overstating the obvious, but make sure the MB side is down.

I'm sure you already know this, but I once helped a guy who couldn't figure out how to get his temps down. His Heat Sink was hanging down from the CPU... :eek2:

Just don't stand a 20" monitor on it, and maybe stick a few 1\2-3\4" high feet on the new bottom side so air can get into the "bottom" vents on your new case bottom.... HD's do not care if run with either long side down, but they do not like to be run upside down or with one END down in most cases. I know, Compaq mounted drives one end down in soem computers-- guess what ONE component pair I sold lots of Compaq owners??? New HD, and mount adapter kit to stick it in the spare 5-1\4" bay....

John, you've just given me an idea for what I think could be a great case mod.

Mount the case as we've discussed here but instead of using 1/2" feet mount it on 2" pylons. Mount a bunch of fans to the outside of the case on the bottom side. With a few more fans on the top you could suck some wicked air through the thing.

Once I get moved in a few weeks I just may try it.
