IBM Aptive booting from CD

Hi,
I have a IBM Aptiva I am trying to repair for a client.
The 5GB HDD had died in it, so I installed a new 40GB HDD.
(edit:I have partitioned this drive into a 32GB and a 8GB partition)

After updating the BIOS so it could see the new drive, I ran the "Recovery CD" to reinstall all the applications.

All seems to go well, and I get a screen saying that "recovery is complete - please eject the CD and restart your computer", which I do.

When the computer tries to boot, it looks at the CD drive for boot records.

I have changed the startup process, and have even disconnected the CD-ROM drive ~ all for no result.

I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a hand with this error - I'm sure my client doesnt want to be nuying a new computer (even though they probably should)

Thanks in advance,
JEFFREY

I was working on a bunch of old aptivas for a charity project last month. I found that these suckers tend not to like hardware changes and often required removal of the battery and/or re-education with a hammer to recognize drives properly. So try resetting the cmos and/or removing and replacing the battery.

    Hi,
Thanks for the responses - i will try those options.
I have a strange feeling it wont work though.

I dont know why these companies cant make their machines accept other parts.
You hae next to no hope of finding a original HDD in working order - after this many years, there should be another option.

    Regards,
