well, i can get a 128 meg jump drive (or thumb, or pen, or pocket, or flash, or key ... good lord someone needs to define a single name) for cheap. usb 2.0 is $17 and usb 1.1 is $10. now, honestly, will i notice a massive performance increase? i'd be willing to bet the most i will ever have where it's truly useful is 20 megs (unless i'm giving a friend some files or whatnot). will the extra 7 bucks be worth it or should i just go with 1.1? something i'd like to know would be, for a one megabyte file, how long will it take to transfer on each of the usb versions?

On large files (over 10mb) you will notice a big difference. I use a jump drive all the time. My main computer has usb 2.0, but most others I use don't. The 2.0 is almost instantaneous, whereas the 1.1 can take a minute or more on very large files. I would spend the extra 7 bucks.
