Need Help!! Raid array is down!
I have a machine with 4x WD120GB Set as Raid 5 on a Promise SX4000 controller. One drive failed a few days ago so I got an exact replacement so I could synchronize and rebuild. Well, problem is that a replaced the wrong HD by accident and now the entire array has now become offline!!!! Even after going back and replacing the right one.. it's still offline. Is there any way to recover from this? I desperately need to retrieve the data that was stored...
Please help.
Thank you.

When I was at Adaptec we had a little utility that could run from a DOS disk and reset the flags on the array to "optimal". Then you could fail the right drive and replace it.
Of course all this depends on how the controller records drive failures. Most write something out to the array information tracks on the drives. Some to all drives in the set, some to only the failed drive.
Really makes no difference as tech support is the only chance you have of recovering a multiple drive RAID-5 failure, even when it was a mistake.
Wish I could tell you something better.
I'll give them a call.
Cheers!
