I'm trying to put together a cd with lots of usefull tools, programs on it, all freeware. So this site has helped me out a lot. I also got 4 computers sitting in my room waiting to get worked on from friends, family so this cd is going to save me sometime on installing nic's in some and putting them on my network.
Oh and the MS security cd they sent out is a must have.

also:
http://www.tucows.com/ (TUCOWS is a mirror network for legal downloads, among other things) http://www.download.com/ (C|Net's Download site, everything is legal that is there) http://www.planetmirror.com/ (not REAL great for US folks due to latency, it is in Australia, not bad at all either considering US and UK folks will be downloading from across the PLANET-- Jonshandbrake and DragonV8 will probably enjoy the HECK out of it if they do not know it already, though.)
Since some of us might or do speak and\or read German(OE, me, etc.), or have ways to translate it, here is the URL for the downloads area for one of the longest published and leading German computer enthusiast tech magazines, c't Mag: http://www.heise.de/ct/shareware/
And, you might look at top section of this following page, sometime: http://www.ftpsearchengines.com/
It has an index of file search engines as top section.
Thanks for the snapfiles link, Clutch, that was one I had not seen yet.

Both the security update Feb 2004 CD, and if you are a tech who does it for a living, their security GUIDANCE KIT CD, which has among other things the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer whihc evals for needed patches, are very much freebie must haves for IT Pros. Much of the GUIDANCE KIT is presentations intended for techs to show users, from Microsoft and its security partners. BUT, it has a small toolkit of software also.
Since we are at tech toolkit programs:
XP does ZIP. PicoZip does 7 archive major kinds for making, and reads and extracts from 15 kinds of archives (It can open RARs , TARs, LZHs, LHAs, and even StuffIT (.SIT) Apple-box-created archives in Windows)-- it is a compression archive swiss army knife. You might look at the trial, Clutch.
I also looked at, and purchased via a Digital River processed Download, WinTasks 4 Pro, the trial for which runs 15 days. Very nice if you do not have the Symantec Process Viewer on a Norton SystemWorks CD (which is one reason I recommend Norton SsytemWorks to folks, makes my job easier and faster) and even if you do have it, it gives you more text info that is keyed to selected process as well as being able to tunr off and on some services and processes and show what processes they call (basic process tree analyzer Window). I got the download purchase for that, burned archive to CD for backup, they are burning and sending me a CD also.
If you or anyone else is missing certain kinds of things not here in our downloads area or suggested already, I might have ideas, will stop with those for this post.
