Omegasearch Removal - Smackdollars

I have gone through the steps to remove Omegasearch, but it won't go away.
I tried it the first time and it came back so I did it a second time with no success. Here is my second log file:

    Hi Dollars,

You need to boot up in safe mode, and get rid of this junk:

Note: Do an advanced search for any folders named "gigex" and kill 'em! Might want to look around for these too:

    adv74
    Brxpdf5
    coupons.com
    nosuch
    usclyngoa

Also, look in your Program Files folder for a folder called "DAP" and kill it.

If you haven't already, download and run BOTH AdAware 6 & Spybot 1.3

It wouldn hurt to run CW Shredder also.http://majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

I still see a few lines that need to be removed while in safe mode with system restore turned off.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = about_:blank

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\Updreg.exe - not needed, Creative register reminder

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE" -atboottime - Not needed for Quick Time to operate properly

    O4 - Startup: Adobe Gamma Loader.exe.lnk = C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe - Also not needed

Try removing those and then see what HJT shows on it's log.

MD is right, kill the about_blank junk and keep up on running and immunizing with SpyBot, you should be alright.

Might not be a bad Idea to save your final HiJackThis log on a disk, so you can refer back to it the next time your internet starts acting up.

Also, could you do us a favor? Read up on Folding at Home, and see if it's something you could help us out with.

Team Short-Media would appreciate it, and love to have you join us.

Uh oh.. You have the about_:blank trojan. The removal is complicated. Here is a thread to read:

It looks like there might be something still going on with my Internet Explorer, but I don't know for sure. I am still learning a lot about all of this. There is quite a bit to know. If I do still have that about_blank I will go through the tutorial. Thank you all again.

It is really making my computer bog down.
After searching some posts I see that there are a few items that need to go, but I'm not 100% sure. If someone could take a look at this I would be greatful.

    Thanks...

Hello Smackdollars, follow the same procedure as before (safe mode with system restore disabled) and remove the following:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {98DBBF16-CA43-4c33-BE80-99E6694468A4} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSMK.DLL I looked and found that 2 different reference sites I googled said to remove this.

This line might also be problematic, but I don't know if it should be removed:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MPREXE.EXE According to windowsstartup , this line might have been added to the startup by a virus.

    This also needs to go:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [IEengine] C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\IEengine.exe After fixing this with HJT, delete the file IEengine.exe from Program files/internet explorer.

    Also delete these 2 lines:

    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.63.219.181.7
    O15 - Trusted Zone: http://*.spywarenuker.com

We'll see what removing all this does to clear you up. :)

Hopefully after we get you all cleared up, you will stay around and join in with us on helping research and Stanford University by joining our Folding Team. Folding@Home is a distributed computing project where very complex equations are broken down into small work units and sent out over the net by Stanford University to do basic research on the misfolding of proteins, which are thought to play a key role in several diseases like Alzheimer's, cancer and cystic fibrosis. :)

    Thanks muddocktor.
    I also deleted the lines:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1

    and

    O3 - Toolbar: &Radio - {8E718888-423F-11D2-876E-00A0C9082467} - C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MSDXM.OCX

When I searched the forums, these were two that seemed suspicious. If I should restore these please, let me know.
I am going to delet the other lines now and I'll post how it turned out.

    Thanks again...

Do not delete MSDXM.OCX. It is the Windows Media Player 2 ActiveX Control. This is a plugin that allows Media Player to integrate into IE.

    http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/dlllibrary/msdxm/

There are a couple of instances in our forums where people have been erroneously advised to delete this entry. We have tried to correct that advice where possible.

    Well...

Unfortunately, I did delete it. Is there a way that can restore it from the back up?

run hijack this, click "config...", then "backups", then select what you want to restore and click restore.
