Glow Wire Idea

So, I’ve got some red and yellow glow wire. So, here’s a thought. Twist them both together, and put red on an always on power supply, and the yellow on a sound activated / blinking power supply. I like sound activated because it makes the blinking sporadic. You should get the following result (see pic). I haven’t figured out what a good application would be for this, but it’s a thought. What do you think of it?

Rather than an idea, I just have a question: Why?

what would you use for the sound activation?

Thrax, didn't you see Tony's case at the LAN? The more colorful neon, the better!

It doesn't have anything to do with it, because its part of his sig.

the power inverter has built in sound activation. there are also deviced you can get that can sound activate anything (here's one).

i kinda was looking for something i could decorate the front of the case with. i used to have 2 blue sound activated neons, one on each side, but they prooved to be too delicate for the lan. both got broken. for those that didnt see them, they where on the top half running along the drive bays of my chieftech case. i'm sure you can picture that. also, the origional curved air slots on the bottom half have been riped off. there are 2 red lighted fans in the fan bays with chrome wire fan grills over them. i'm not sure if i want to run a twisted pair of glow wires around the front of the case, but it may be worth it if i connect one of the inverters to the HD light with a transistor. my origional plan was to use just the red.

    hmmm..... now my brains workin....

    I'm open to any suggestions.

    Hey Tony,

Can you direct me as to where I can get the specs on the "glowwire". I'm interested in diameter, voltage requirements, etc... Once I have an idea what this stuff looks like and how it operates, I'd be happy to throw some suggestions your way.

From your previous post it sounds like your comfortable soldering and working with basic electronics. If this is incorrect, let me know.

I'm going to assume that the glowwire has an audio input of some sort. This could be wired directly to one of the audio outs on the sound card. Thus when you're laying down some supression fire for your buddy in BF1942, the glowwire is just flashing like crazy!

www.sunbeamtech.com has some specs somewhere on their site. i can tell you that the glow wire uses a high voltage power suply that runs off the 12 volt circut from the psu. The audio input is a mic by the way.
I am very good with electronics actually. Knoledgable in analogue and basic digital circuit design.
