fat 32 error???

edited May 2004 in Science & Tech

Everytime that i turn on my comp, i get this message..."checking on file system on C: The type of file is a FAT32.

One of your disk needs to be checked for consistency.

Windows will now check the disk volume serial number is 063F-OAEC

Windows is verifying files and folders."

It then goes 0 to 100% then do it agani 0 to 100% after the second time it will usually work, this would not be such a problem, accept it takes anywhere from 2 to 6 hours to do this process. I ran a virus search, and nothing was found. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :banghead: Thanks!

Get the drive test utility from your HD manufacturer and see what it tell you. Sounds like you have an iffy sector(s) and Windows is having to try and move critical boot data.

If you need help finding and/or using the utility just post the brand of HD and we'll help you from there. :)

You might be able to see it listed in the bios. Common brands are Maxtor, Western Digital, Seagate, Samsung and Fujitsu, though there are many more. If you manage to get the computer booted up all the way you can also find it in Device Manager. If none of that works just open the case and take a look.

    Just let us know. :)
