just decided to start overclocking my 9800pro, and i'm wondering, what app do you guys use to test for artifacts, or is there one you can get that will TELL you if you have artifacts or not? that way i won't have to sit and watch some demo every few minutes

\\EDIT: how far should i clock the gpu and ram to begin with, so i don't have to deal with increasing it one by one and hten looking? ie: what have you guys reached?

    You could try ATiTool.

ok, could anyone who has a 9800 pro on STOCK cooling please post their maximum results without artifacts?
edit: i'm using atitool now, much better than radlinker, though the linking capabilities might be nice for setting certain gfx for certain games. for the test though, that's just a little cube, won't having it fullscreen have a more likely chance of producing artifacts?

welp, on my core i got a max of 384.23 and the mem max is 363.46 and i haven't entirely finished testing, but i have a feeling i'm awful close. that's incredibly disappointing...6 mhz on the core?! if i decreased the memory, would it enable a higher core or not?

You could also try Artifact Tester. I've used that in the past.

I don't know how much higher you could go. I know I can barely get ~15 MHz more outta this 9700 Pro's core and maybe 10-15 MHz out of the RAM. I just leave it at stock speeds. It's just more trouble than it's worth, in my case at least.

well 30mhz on the ram isn't bad at all, but i was hoping for a bit more on the core
