basicaly the same fearures but one is VIA k8t800 and the other is Nforce3 chipset.

Is one that much better then the other?

Only chipset I have used for an opteron so far is the real AMD one. I have a msi neo with the via chipset for socket 754 and its seems fine so far.

the SK8V kills the SK8n in mem band. and gaming performance.

i had both boards and the sk8v has alot more OC features/bells/whistles.

dont get me wrong, the SK8n is a nice board, but if u look at the prices @ newegg, there is like 10$ diff, i would get the SK8V

Its a lot bigger differance on eBay prices. I paid $50 bucks for the sk8n. And its not going to be OC'd at all. It needs to run 24/7 and be dead quiet and reliable for Robin to do work stuff on. I wanted a cheap way to upgrade her from the old kr7 and 1700+ XP she had was all.

    Thanks !

Tex, HardOCP reported that heavy IDE traffic could/would crash the NF3-150 chipset. The Via K8T800 was much prefered by hardware sites over the NF3-150. However the K8T800 Pro and the NF3-250gb are neck and neck

I'll let you know regarding the heavy ide traffic and crashs. I wonder if its the ide, the sata or a pci related prob. I'll keep ya updated. The via chipset board runs two to three times the cost of the nforce one on eBay.

    Thanks
