Single Disk SI SATA problem!

edited May 2004 in Hardware
Hello folks,
like many, many others around on different hw-forums, I'm having serious problems with the SI SATA controller.
firstly, the setup:
abit nf7-s rev 2.0, WD2000JD (and two other hd's connected as master/slave on regular IDE) and if interesting: barton 2500+, corsair 256mb ram.
I'm only trying to use one disk on the sata controller, and not RAID or anything like that. Sometimes, the disk doesn't show up in the SATA bios, when it does, it sometimes hang in the windows loading screen. And when it does neither, and loads windows completly, the system hangs, or is very slow when using the SATA connected HD.
I've tried alot of SATA drivers and nf7-s bioses. Currently I'm using the 1.0.0.40 drivers and the nf7-s 22 bios by EQuito :http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39275&highlight=Equito+22

Am I missing something obvious here? spent the entire day browsing different forums, and thus far, nothing helps...

Is the WD jumpered as single unit? Sata controllers require Master setting, but WD's have to be jumpered to single to show up regular on SATA.

Also you must use the RAID driver even if you are not running a RAID. Reason is it is a RAID controller and you are running in what is called JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks). It's still a RAID, just not a formal one. Make sense I hope?

the wd disk doesn't have any jumpers concerning master\slave and such, since it is a SATA disk (the jumpers are for power management).
As I said I'm using the 1.0.0.40 RAID drivers (and have tried a bunch of others). Does anyone have a similar setup (single sata drive) that can tell me a driver-bios combination that works for them?
