Im not sure on this one. You will be adding the drive as a network drive not a optical drive. I am going to go out on a limb and say this wont work

Even if you could get it to work you'd be at the mercy of your network bandwidth. Chances are you'd burn a few expensive (DVD) coasters that way.

What I do is copy everything I want to burn over to a drive on the computer with the burner. It adds an extra step, but gets the job done.

the reason i ask is I want to back up my file server to dvd's and I have a dvd burner in my main box thats why I was wondering how I could do it. Any ideas then a easy way to back up my file server on dvd if the burner is on my main box?

Make a computer image with Norton Ghost and burn the images to DVD.

Nope. The PIII in the other room has a DVD writer, and I tried to rip/burn from this computer through the mapped network drive. Doesn't work. I couldn't even watch a movie.
