    welcome to short-media

boot into safe mode, remove the following with hijackthis:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://start.shaw.ca/start/enca
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost
    O1 - Hosts: 64.159.91.200 auto.search.msn.com
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Pure Global] C:\PROGRA~1\JUNKDR~1\coal grey.exe
    O16 - DPF: {74D05D43-3236-11D4-BDCD-00C04F9A3B61} (HouseCall Control) - http://a840.g.akamai.net/7/840/537/...all/xscan53.cab

then, manually delete the folder c:\program files\junkdr~1\ (this is a folder that starts with junkdr)

    reboot.

download and install adaware and spybot S&D from the link in my sig, and make sure to update and run them regularly.

    Hey shwaip,

I really appreciate what you sent me. I was just wondering what exaxtly are adaware and spybot S&D exactly. With all that has been happenig with my computer lately I don't want more problems to arise. I'm sure you can understand and I hope you don't take this the wrong way. If these really do stop Omegasearch from popping up on my computer then I will forever be in your debt. Thanks again!

    I understand :)

I told you to remove several entries with hijack this. That is what will get rid of omegasearch. Here's an explanation of what I told you to remove:

These are Internet explorer preferences. They really may not have anything to do with omegasearch, but it's very easy to restore them if they are needed
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://start.shaw.ca/start/enca
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Int ernet Settings,ProxyOverride = localhost

HOSTS file entry, will redirect your computer to 64.159.91.200 whenever you want to go to auto.search.msn.com
    O1 - Hosts: 64.159.91.200 auto.search.msn.com

A couple resource hogs, not required to run quicktime and realplayer, respectively, and take up a fair amount of resources
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

This is the actual omegasearch executable, which is what you're having problems with
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Pure Global] C:\PROGRA~1\JUNKDR~1\coal grey.exe

This is a "dialer". It can run up your phone bill pretty good, if you've got a modem connected
    O16 - DPF: {74D05D43-3236-11D4-BDCD-00C04F9A3B61} (HouseCall Control) - http://a840.g.akamai.net/7/840/537/...all/xscan53.cab

I suggested that you run adaware and spybot S&D regularly because they are programs that will help remove and prevent spyware infections in the future, but really only if you keep them updated and run them regularly. The immunize function of spybot s&d is very helpful as well!

Both are specialized, both do different things. AdAware knows some trojans put on boxes to make ad feeding less avoidable-- specializes in removing that stuff. SpyBot S&D attacks bots that can spread trojans without being constantly maintained, they float on the web. It knows trojans, some, that open holes bots use. SpyBot can kill bots that AV can miss. Some bots are hybrids, carry trojans, and are programmed to plant them.

I'll explain how a firewall can help stop this ALSO, if asked.
