My PC runs the broadband internet connection for a few other PCs on my network.
but my pc isn't always on, so does anybody know how to get my PC to boot up automatically when the Lan needs it to work?

also what is the LAN boot rom option in the bios and what does it do?

I have a abit NF7-s v2

    Hello...

If your PC has "WAKE-ON_LAN" function and a NIC card that is capable of "WAKE_ON_LAN"... it's possible but difficult. The other systems need to have an application that can send the command to wake up. Several vendors provide "Wake On LAN" applications but none that are free (That I can find).

Second question... Boot from LAN or LAN boot... This is to allow systems to boot off of a server to either reinstall an operating system, restore and image, or run an operating system remotely. Where I work, the Boot from LAN is used for our NIC stations. These stations are mini PC's with NO hard drives. They boot from the network and load a basic operating system into RAM. Very simple systems and cheap. The entire system is like $200. We use the Boot from LAN function to install images from across the network... slow but not bad when you are not able to carry the images with you...

ok so attached is the poweronlan from power off option I found in the onboard nvidia network controller options in winxp.

So am I right in thinking that when it gets the certain signal from the other computers even when powered off, it'll boot up?
If so, anyone no what the signal is, as there must be a way to right a simple script to do this.

    Cheers

From what I have found in my research, the command can be quite complex and that is why vendors have released applications to send the command to "wake up"...

If you do find a script, let me know

    ?leave it on?
I know that this isn't very sophisticated, but it would work.
And it had might as well be folding all of that time too.....
