Man Charged With Publishing Terror ebook

edited June 2004 in Science & Tech
An Aussie man who published what police call a terrorism handbook on the Interweb is the first to be charged under the country’s new anti-terror laws.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Khazal is first person to be charged with the offence since the introduction of Commonwealth counterterrorism legislation in 2002. Police have seized documents and Khazal’s hard drive during a search of his Sydney home. Among the documents was a book with the title 'Provisions In The Rules of Jihad - Short Wise Rules and Organisational Instructions Which Is The Concern of Every Fighter and Mujahid Against the Infidels'.

As much as it pains me to say this...censorship of one subject, no matter how distasteful, will lead to censorship of more and more subjects. I'm just glad to know that this wasn't here, I know that terrorisim books aren't cool and all but at what point does it stop being about preventing crime and become about suppressing ideas?
Freedom for one means freedom for all, when the freedoms of one are removed then the freedoms of everyone else are sure to follow shortly thereafter.

Thats crap. Anybody who owns a hunting rifle is extremely dangerous. Just because the potential is there doesnt mean there is a serious threat.

Freedom doesn't mean you can do anything you want. If you were to print a booklet of child porn pictures you would quite rightly be prosecuted. Same thing with terrorism, some stuff should just not be allowed. Just my opinion.

Child porn has nothing to do with political ideals (or religious for all that) but the book they are talking about is both politically and religiously slanted...that being said when does it become a crime to not agree with the current form of government or religion?
When disagreeing in a radical way becomes illegal then the freedom to express disatisfaction in any form could follow.
When you stop to think about it the U.S. was founded by terrorists.
