Which server OS to go with?

I would like to install a server OS on my new computer I just got this week. Right now it is running win2k. I have either Windows 2000 Advanced Server or Windows Server 2003. I just basically want a server OS that I can play around with to learn more about different network admin tasks, and just server side stuff in general.

I have 3 hours until the system completes the Tinker that it is folding now, so I have until then to figure which OS I am going to use.

If you were in my shoes, which would you go for? and please explain why.

I would choose Win2k3 because you'll be learning the newest Windows server platform. And it's more robust than Win2K AS.

I'll second Thrax. I mean both have active directory and other key pieces but you need to constantly push and try and keep up with the latest technologys if you still aspire to a career in this field. MS rarely moves backwards the next OS will borrow features from the current and mnove forward.

The only problem I had when I was using 2k3 before was it was crashing because of my video drivers. I couldn't find any drivers to work with a radeon card.

If you can't get 2K3 to fly for you than I would recommend just going with 2K Server. 2K Advanced and 2K DC are fine products; however, it sounds like you just want to get your feet wet with basic Windows server administration. 2K server would be your best bet for this.

The newest radeon drivers work with our 9200 that we have on our 2k3 server at school.

You are correct Ocomik, I'm just looking to mess around with administration stuff.

Thrax: I will first try 2003 today to see how that works, maybe it will not crash on me since I am using a different vid card and all. But I know last time I had a slew of errors with my Radeon.

Another rule of thumb for servers is to never use non certified drivers. On XP ... OK.... On a server... I will at times for a raid controller but never for sound/video/usb etc.... I have gotten jacked to many times on systems I demand to run 24/7
