Tis pretty lean and boring but it is 64bit. 32-bit apps do run with it though.

Not really. I read from various sources that majority of softwares got difficulties when installing and runnning.

I don't game but I use a wide variety of software and nothing has not worked except software that uses a driver like anti-virus software. AOL has a driver, etc... No 32bit drivers period allowed. Imaging software that uses their own drivers and not the provided windows software is gonna croak. Some of the software letting you upload and download MP3's to portable media players and crap use their own drivers and they will croak. It's not hard really to guess pretty much even, whats gonna croak and what isnt if you think a little bit.

It's ability to run 32bit software and 64bit software seamlesly for me has been super as long as it does not try and install its own 32bit driver.

I have seen hundreds if not thousands of posts with mis-information about devices that are not supposed to work simply because the poster never bothered to read even the brief two page readme file clearly stating that NO 32bit drivers will be allowed. And they are frustrated after spending all night trying to load 64bit XP and sticking the same old 32bit SATA raid driver on a floppy that came with their MB..... Or wail over and over that their cool new 4n1 printer with scanner/printer/copier/fax driver or software doesn't run. Good grief. By all means FIGURE it won't run with a 95 percent chance of it not and be pleasantly thrilled if you can get the printer even to print at this point.

The user must be prepared to gather all his own drivers and have them ready as well as replacement software thats 64bit capable when needed. This was never supposed to be something everyone should embrace or try. And its not the answer for everyone.

I have legitimate reasons for testing the early versions of both XP and win2k3 for AMD 64 platforms because of my job but I also have three or four OTHER computers in my house to play on or hang the devices off that won't currently run on 64bit platforms so its really been fun and not frustrating for me at all.

If you have one computer you really should NOT be running 64bit XP or win2k3 probably unless you dual boot. And thats just the truth.

Hi im new here, so if you are saying that we are testers for this software as we are does that mean Microsoft can log into our computers and check out what we have and what we are doing, so they like full access to our computers, or dont they get notified about this sorto of thing...like for example if someone had illigal software installed on their system would they get notified of this or would they be able to check it out?

Guilty. In my defence I did get the 64bit nforce drivers and the 64bit ati drivers, but the sata controller just didn't seem to click for some reason... (I think I took the short bus home that day)
But thanks to the help of the uber knowledgeable people on SM, I'm up and running.

And I wasn't really ragging on you directly. This has been a huge problem with the new 64bit OS's all over the web. Tons of people waded into this totaly unprepared. You had at least gathered most the materials you needed.

This is so true - I have both - but I do use XP 64 on purpose - a new program for work which has a 64-bit version and it just flies with my new OS. Never had a single problem with regular 32-bit programs with it. Everything works like a charm. Drivers though - a whole different problem but hey we knew what to expect so dual boot solves it all.

Frias - did you burn an image? If so set in BIOS to boot from CD, restart and it should work.

14min download off my 5mb connection. Its an ISO so you should be able to burn the image.

Sweet, downloading 1433 now. Too many other people must be downloading it at the same time though, coming in super slow.

I'm using x64 as, and have been using x64 as my main OS since 1218. It's stable and easy to use, and fun to try and troubleshoot. I'm on build 1433 now and Everything works but my capture card.

    There are 2 versions:
beta (I think that it is only for AMD64) - 360 days
    demo - 180 days

I dl'd 2k3 some time ago but haven't gotten around to trying it out.
Is there a time limit on using it? ie 360/180 days from what point?
I assume it won't be fully functional until I register it online with MS.?

There should be some text file inside windows directory. Or on the CD. There can be some limitation (it will not run after test period) or such limitation can be not present - in such situation after test period you will be using it illegally.
