Anyone seen a well done review of this thing? I have the perfect application for this rascal if it's worth a crap at all.

    Ah ...you meant reserator 1.
Well I can tell you that every review I have read has been favorable.
This is an excellent nearly silent cooling system which involves a passive reservoir/radiator (hence reserator) ...which means no fan for the radiator. The only noise is from the pump which is hardly audible since it is contained within the reserator. This is probably the quietest watercooler today and while it's cooling won't match the higher output custom w/c systems of today it certainly is impressive for what it is.
I'll spot a few reviews for you.

    http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/zalmanwater/
and this review is the very first one published a few months back ...very good review:
    http://www.nordichardware.com/reviews/cooling/2004/Zalman_passiv/

Now when I saw this thread I thought that possible Zalman had attempted to better the product somehow ...perhaps with more water flow thru a stronger pump and larger 1/2" tubing.

This system has a high potential to set a standard for future noiseless w/c systems IMHO.

As csimon mentioned these things are great but a model with larger hoses and a heftier pump would kick some serious butt. I almost have my wife convinced she needs one as she refuses to give up her purple girlie case with no airflow and no where to add fans.

I will not OC the Athlon 64 3200+ system. So if it works "ok" I'll be fine. As I mentioned I like it for two reasons.

    1) It willl look killer with the clear blue UV acrylic case and
    2) Its dead quiet.

That wasnt directed at me was it? Everything I buy is a compromise for price and has to come from ebay or used due to price. I do't have as much in any of my amd 64 rigs as the gamer guys have in hot top of the line video c ards usually.

I spend on MB/CPU and disks but save big time on memory/sound/video etc..

Gnomewizardd, I'm interested in what you think of the Reserator 1. I've always liked Zalman stuff, and I've had my eye on the Reserator.
Any thoughts? Good? Bad? Could be better?
    Thanks

With no fans I'm not expecting miracle temps to be honest with the reservator. But with a huge zalman heatsink/fan with air cooling I'm ideling at only a few degrees above system temps so it can't a whole lot better anyway.

well I was running 137*f under full load. I just installed it and under full load I am at 113*F so 25*F drop. Easy install and dead silent. thats what i wanted was the silence.

Its good but not great. But for what I wanted in having no noise in my pc IT gets a 8 /10

Oh BTW when you install the flow indicator take it apart and teflon tape it. I installed two of these toningt ( me and my pops ) both had leaks at the flow indicator. Its threaded so its not hard to take care of

    what's also cooling your 9800pro?
I am amazed at how much better cooling the reserator is than the 948u ...I'm sure results may vary but that is a commendable improvement for what it is.:thumbsup:

Would you recommend the Resorator for someone who has never water cooled before.
  • TexTex Dallas/Ft. Worth

Thats one of the main markets its aimed at. Its all self contained basicaly.

I wonder myself how the waterblock itself compares with other designs. I wonder if you could shave a few more degrees off with a better waterblock. The "noiseless part" was a a strong selling point to me.

And these suckers are on ebay and go off for around 200 bucks every couple days.
