German site Computerbase said it has figured out how to de-activate optimisations on ATI's Radeon X800 Pro/XT. With optimisations switched off, the performance of the graphics cards changes dramatically.
Suitably this cause we want to communicate also directly still another more or less joyful message for owners of ATi maps of the row 9600 and X800. On weekend is us succeeds to find out some Registry entries for the beta Catalyst, with which the X800 XT is tested, with which one can switch the optimizations off of these two map series so far, in order again the filtering to get, which one already knows of the Radeon 9700/9800-Serie. Whether and how strongly the image quality affects, we do not want to commentate with intention, since on in-Game-Screenshots hardly proof-strong statements are to be met here and individual feeling plays also a role

alright, if that was in english, or at least a reasonable translation, i might've been able to understand. but i'm still lost on the trilinear hoohah ... is it bad? I don't get it...if you get a better picture, just by cheating a little ... WHO CARES? whether or not they cheat in software shouldn't matter much, if they can pull better stunts on the same hardware ... or am i completely off base here?
