Oh Noes! Did I fry my poor shuttle?

My Shuttle FN45 won't boot up all of the sudden.

It has a A XP 2500+ w 2 256 meg stix of hyperx pc3000 memory.

I was messing around trying to OC it when all of the sudden it just stopped booting.

Whats very strange is that all the components seem to be working... cd-rom starts blinking like normal.. smartfan2 cranking away. but as soon as I hit the power button, the power led lights up for a half a sec or so then shuts off. But the fans and cdrom are still working. And I don't get any display. :banghead:

I have tried clearing cmos with the jumper but I still get the same result.

And I dont think the cpu could be fried because it was running fine at faster speed. right before the machine died I made a couple changes in bios and it was rebooting. So I wasnt even in windows.

Can anyone help? ANY suggestions would be GREATLY apreciated.

//edit: also tried taking out the cmos battery and putting it back in

Try swapping some of the parts out with Rig #1 in your sig. Put the 2500+ in Rig 1 and see if it works. Same goes for RAM and video. It doesnt have to boot into windows so dont worry about windows getting mad because you changed your video card. Let it post and stop the boot process.

I went ahead with your suggestion starting with ram.. I switched out some ram from rig1 and threw it in the shuttle. Now when I hit the power button on the shuttle it doesnt power on at all.

I think Ive got a dead psu. After all it is only 200w and its pushin a huge fan/cpu vidcard, and then I was increaseing voltages to ram and cpu. I think it just choked.

That really sux. Hopefully its still under warrenty. Prolly 4-6 weeks shipping processing. life goes on...

Thanks for responding so quick man. Much apreciated!

if it is the PSU, just hope it didn't take anything else with it to the graveyard.

Possible the PSU safetied. If it did, some of them need to be left unplugged for 15 min or more to reset.

Possible a RAM stick is not in tight, or that the RAM timings are off.

Possible CMOS battery got stuck in too soon after being pulled.

Possible things to try before writing off PSU:

    Unplug computer.

Take out CMOS Battery, leave it out.

Check and make sure RAM stick, cable connections (power, IDE, etc), and CPU and video card are seated right (this should take 10-20 min if you check everything carefully, CMOS can take up to 30 min to decay its settings records, and partial settings retention can often result in a no-boot).

    Put CMOS battery back in.

    Plug computer back in.

Power up, go into CMOS instead of trying to load windows, then set CMOS to defaults. Any settings that you know work can be set and then saved to CMOS during this BIOS program session.

Let box try to load Windows.

Please let us know what happens so we can drill into it more.

Take the parts from the shuttle and one by one put them in rig one. If it boots then its good. Try another part then. Put questionable parts in a known good setup. You still dont know if the CPU/motherboard/ram is good by putting a good part into a mess of questionable parts.

If you aren't satisfied with a replacement 200w psu from shuttle, Newegg has a beefier sff shuttle psu right here. 250w, and it's suppose to be quieter than the original 200w.

Sorry I havn't yet posted my results, I just got a new job and have been workin my a** off, so I havnt had much time.

Im going to mess with it some more now... Ill let ya know what happens.

BTW something I forgot to mention is right before dying the cpu/case fan started shutting off for a second and turning back on if that means anything.

Also now when i attempt to power it on NOTHING happens at all. but when I plug it in a green led comes on inside.

Yeah, it sounds like psu problems to me.

Did you mess with the voltages? Also what revision of the FN45 is it?
