Microsoft has lost a patent lawsuit brought against them by InterTrust, a digital rights management company. Judge Saundra Brown Armstrong ruled strongly in favor of InterTrust at this preliminary but crucial hearing aimed at laying down ground rules for the rest of the lawsuits proceedings.
InterTrust is suing Gates and co for 144 counts of patent infringement, claiming that some of Microsofts products violate its digital rights management patents.
This ruling by no means guarentees InterTrust will win the whole suit, but having a ruling in their favour at this stage greatly improves their ultimate chance of success.
