Confident Nokia Unveils Five New Phones

edited June 2004 in Science & Tech
Nokia Corp. (NOK) unveiled five new phone models Monday, saying it was confident it could regain recently lost ground in the mobile phone market and reach 40 percent of the global market share.
Launching five new mid- to high-market phones, Ollila said Nokia was confident it could reach its 40 percent target, but did not say how long it would take. He declined to give details of the company's 2004 forecast. The 6630 - just 4.5 ounces - features a camera, an MP3 player and will support broadband Internet transmission 40 times the speed of second-generation cell phone technology, Nokia said. It will be available the last quarter of 2004 and cost an estimated $600, the company said. The new models also featured clamshell phones, a new look for Nokia's portfolio but also one competitors and consumers have already embraced.

Sounds like mine. It's a Nokia 5160. I wouldn't give it up for the world though. It's been put through a ton of abuse and does its job. I don't need a phone with a lot of gadgetry although I'm an admitted gadgety freak. I'll take PDA functions integrated but I have no need for streaming video, a camera attached, or annoying ring tones. If it'll play Battlefield 1942 at 60FPS I may be convinced to pry my fingers off my current one. Otherwise, the one I have now does its job well and that's all I ask of it. I don't understand the big cell phone craze with these models adding all these crazy features. IMO they are bloated and overpriced.
