Britain To Get Airport Iris Scanners
A test run of an iris-scanning system will begin at Britain's five busiest airports next year in a bid to increase security and speed immigration controls, the government said Tuesday.
Source: Excite/Associated PressThe Home Office said selected foreign travelers - including foreign students, work permit holders and nationals from outside the European Union who are residing in Britain - would be invited to sign up for the test. After the participants are vetted, their irises would be scanned and they would be able to pass through a dedicated immigration channel at the airports. Other airports in Europe and the United States also have undertaken passenger-speeding systems using biometrics, which measure a person's physical characteristics, such as fingerprint, face or iris pattern.
