If you have an older game that crashes whenever you try to play it on the web but a very much newer one works, your older game might be using a part of Windows that is older and has a hole in it, that was patched this month (June of 2004). I cannot gurantee this fix will fix YOUR problem totally but it might be worth trying. This is here due to it impacting gamers as enthusiasts more often than not, but some other apps can be affected by this hole also
What the Microsoft KB patch for this does is to eliminate a hole in iDirectPlay4 that allows games to be crashed when they go on the web. The newer games typically use iDirectPlay8 which does not have this hole, but on an older computer with 98 or ME on it, the newer games might also be in a backward compatibility mode and using this.
As of June 7, 2004, Microsoft has this Security note up for iDirectPlay4 in 2000 and XP.

This is the specific note for folks with DirectX 9.0 running (all DirectX 9 versions) on 2000 or XP:

This link also can apply to network apps that use DirectX interactively on 2000 and up.
For older O\S versions, Microsoft is not releasing a patch for this specifically for those O\S's.
