Design The 50K Cog!

We need a new cog to use for those elite Folders who have hundreds of thousands of points. It will be the 50K version of our current 1K cog ( :fold: ).

It doesn't need to resemble the old familiar red cog. I think something along the lines of the Double Helix used in our Sig Star Rating would look good and fit the overall design scheme. Don't let my ideas limit you - if you've got a good idea let's see it. :)

It should be small enough to fit a large number of them (ten or more) into a milestone notification thread, and must look good enough to make our top Folders feel special. ;D Working the title "50K" into the design would be a good idea, too.

The attached image is an example of the raw material available for a truly stunning Short-Media Folding mod. GIS for "Double Helix" will get you many more. Something based on an image this size should be reduced by at least half.

I worded that poorly (fixed, now). I just mean that it should be small enough to string a bunch of them together. For example, csimon is bearing down on 850,000 points. Under the old system I would put 850 of these :fold: in the milestone. With a new 50K cog I would only need 17 of them.

It should be smaller than our other awards (BWA, First Cog, Toaster, Folding Star) since we'll be using gobs of them in the milestone threads. It should be somewhat larger (maybe 2X or 3X) than the 1K cog ( :fold: ) to show off its superior standing.

here's my go at it, maybe too big?? I can size it down more as well

    theres a 100x100 and a 200x200 original

    <img src="http://purposelessproductions.net/misc/50k200.gif">

    small edit:

The original cog is like 20x20px so I resize it to 60x60 (3x the size of the normal cog) and here's what it looks like

i put some darker lines around the cog to define it more on a smaller scale, here it is at 60x60

I saved the file so I can mess with it a little more later one, let me know what you think!

Very unofficial (I want to give everyone a fair chance), but I'm testing it out in csimon's latest milestone thread.

EDIT: And now Vicodin's, too.

    Same here.

I also kind of like the 50K on the left side (as in the first few).

    Nice work! :respect:

What happened? Did Camman's entry scare other potential contributors away? ;D (Can't blame 'em.)

    How's about a few more designs. :)

Ok, I don't like it in the least...mostly due to the fact that I suck (despite my previous statement) at Photoshop :-/ I like the idea, even tried to get it to match S-M's color scheme...sorta. But, I like the idea, so if anyone who *can* use Photoshop wants to give mine another whirl with the raw files, PM me :)

P.S. - the white around the double helix is intentional, but I might get rid of it after I fool around a bit. Oh, and Phish + lack of sleep + Photoshop = some weird ideas. ;)

EDIT: I like this idea, but if someone else would try it / could find a color double helix, I think it could be much better.

I like it! Working the famous S-M colors into the design is a nice touch. Since you aren't 100% thrilled with it yet why not tweak it up a little? You're off to a great start. :)

Poo, since it was deemed 'decent' I guess I'll have to poke around with it a bit more :p
Anyone know of a *good* color double helix? I think all the black and white might be overdoing it just a touch...

Alright, I found one I could use, that even was color-appropriate. Now it almost feels as if there TOO much of a Short-Media influence on it, but we all know we can never have too much S-M ;) 2 options here...Personally #1 felt too empty so I cropped a tad off the top and shifted the DNA.

We have several great entries - any more out there?
