Omegasearch problems...what am I doing wrong?

I tried following the advice of one of the posts here yesterday. I ran S&D a few times and then downloaded HijackThis, ran it in safe mode, and removed the same lines recommended in the post I was reading.

On reboot, I'm still getting this stupid little searchbar in the upper right corner of my screen and Explorer is still redirecting to Search200.com or mypoiskovic.com. Subsequent HijackThis trials show the lines I previously fixed have returned. Can anyone tell me what I'm missing???

Here's the latest log...I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!

OK, be sure to remember the folder where you installed HijackThis (in case you need to reinstall a deleted file) to and boot up in safe mode and delete the following:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://search200.com/searchbar.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://search200.com/searchbar.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = search200.com
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://search200.com/searchbar.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://search200.com/searchbar.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://search200.com/searchbar.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://search200.com/searchbar.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://mypoiskovik.com/index.htm
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [winactive] C:\Program Files\Window Active\winactive.exe - LOP variant
    O4 - Global Startup: winlgn.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MSNSysRestore] C:\WINNT\system32\pc32.exe bg

You can also delete the following lines as they aren't needed for proper operation of the apps and are resource users:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\OSA9.EXE
    O4 - Global Startup: WinZip Quick Pick.lnk = C:\Program Files\WinZip\WZQKPICK.EXE

    Also, delete the following directory:

    C:\Program Files\Window Active

After doing this please post a new HJT log. :)

glad to see you got some help...

    don't forget this one though:

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [bone burn] C:\PROGRA~1\Shimford\TrayPeak.exe

manually delete the folder c:\program files\shimford also

I googled all over on that one, couldn't find any info though. Thanks shwaip, for catching backup for me. :)

That's a standard omegasearch file...random folder, random filename, chosen from a few key words (surf, bone, burn, etc) :)

Wow!! You guys are the best. After six months of putting up with this, I'm finally clear of this thing. At least 99.9%. I ran HijackThis twice, the first time with Muddocktor's input, then with Shwaip's additions.

Here's the final question: I noted when I went to set my homepage the search200.com choices were still available. Could this come back and bite me later if I don't clear it?

Below is the log I ran between Muddocktor and Shwaip's advice, followed by my final log after Shwaip's last two additions were completed.

Okay, I believe this should have been suggested earlier, to not delete stuff just because you saw it in another thread. Everyone's running processes and systems are not exactly the same.

I mean, yea, if it's harmful, take it out, there are other threads on the same subject and issues. But just be careful.

I would reset my home page in IE to something else, Big D. :)

I'm glad we could help you out on your problems; I hate even the idea of these hijackers, much less being infected with them.

Now that you are clear of the hijackers, drop in on some of the other forums here and maybe try doing a little work for humanity and research and check out the Folding@Home Project which is run by Stanford University. We have our own forum here and would love to have you decide to participate on this worthy project on our team. :)

Disregard my last question. I forgot clearing history took care of that.

Hey, good advice JGK150. I wasn't worried personally about nixing the wrong files because the majority of strings contained the actual words of the problem files. The reason I was having the continuing problem was precisely because I didn't try to fix what I didn't recognize and needed help finding the source.

Your point, however, is well taken as a general rule of thumb.

    Thanks!
